Tips to Prolong the Service Life of a Vacation Home Mattress

by Elsa Jarvela

Many vacation-home owners do not know that mattresses are perhaps the most important investment regarding customer comfort. When clients look for a vacation home, they examine the beds first. Therefore, it is crucial to buy a high-quality mattress for each bed. That said, commercial mattresses can deteriorate faster without proper care, especially if your vacation home is booked most days of the year. However, you can take specific measures to make your mattresses last longer.

Use Mattress Protector

Although it sounds like an obvious protective measure, you will be surprised at the number of vacation homes that do not use mattress protectors. Mattress protectors are arguably the best, simplest and cheapest way to prolong the longevity of a commercial mattress. Notably, a good-quality mattress protector should be waterproof to guard a mattress against spills. A protector also creates a barrier that helps keep dust, debris, dirt, skin oils, and sweat away from a mattress's fabric. As a result, it helps reduce the build-up of allergens, such as mould and dust mites. Moreover, a mattress protector makes cleanups a breeze. Besides, modern types feel just as comfortable as a bedsheet.

Invest in Two-Sided Mattresses

There is no doubt that one-sided quality mattresses can last long with proper care. However, would you not like a mattress that offers you twice the longevity? A two-sided mattress is a perfect choice for a vacation home since it allows you to rotate it regularly. For instance, when one guest leaves and you prepare the bedrooms for new vacationers, you can flip a two-sided mattress. Most importantly, a two-sided mattress helps promote even wear on both sides; hence, prolonging the service life. Therefore, it reduces the frequency of replacing the mattresses in your vacation home.

Inspect the Bed Base

A quality mattress only lasts as long as a bed's base allows. Unfortunately, many vacation home managers do not inspect bed bases as frequently as they should, shortening the service life of mattresses. Although using a matching foundation with a matching mattress is the best way to ensure that your mattress lasts longer, it is not a requirement. When inspecting a bed's base, look for weak points that might cause the foundation to sag. Please pay particular attention to a bed's centre support bars because they offer extra support for a mattress. Additionally, look for signs of loose nails and splinters that damage a mattress's fabric and cause early wear. Therefore, you can only guarantee the integrity of your mattresses by checking on your beds' support regularly.
